Located in the vibrant neighbourhood of Yaletown, Minami Restaurant follows the pioneering footsteps of its sister restaurant, Miku, in delivering the innovative dining experience of Aburi cuisine to Vancouver's thriving food scene. Each piece of sushi is flame seared using a blowtorch and binchotan (oak charcoal), resulting in sushi with a smoky aroma and a melt-in-your-mouth texture. What truly sets Minami apart from Miku is their emphasis on the appetizer and entrée courses in Aburi cuisine. From the kitchen, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients are integrated into Minami's dishes to reflect Vancouver's diverse flavours. This culinary approach evokes both the passion and beauty of Aburi cuisine, as each dish is artfully plated on custom-designed Arita Yaki plate ware hand picked by owner Seigo Nakamura from the artisan town of Arita, Japan.

History

Established in 2011.

Seigo Nakamura, owner of the Tora Corporation in Japan, is the visionary behind Aburi Restaurants Canada. Successfully operating eight restaurants in the southern Japanese city of Miyazaki, Seigo's father and former owner of the business, Juichi, had always admired Canada. When Seigo visited Vancouver for the first time in 2007, he immediately knew his concept of Aburi cuisine would fit in well with the city's flair for multicultural cuisine. With an ambitious vision of introducing Aburi sushi to North America, in 2008 Seigo took his family restaurant business of nearly six decades across the world to Vancouver, Canada. Fast forward to today, Seigo's unique concepts and progressive business strategies have led to the spread of Aburi style cuisine and Ningenmi philosophy across Canada. Aburi Restaurants is the parent company of Miku Vancouver, Minami, Gyoza Bar, and Miku Toronto.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Jeremy is no stranger to the restaurant industry. Since joining the Minami family, he welcomes the Ningenmi philosophy in his work by providing a flawless dining experience to all guests. Through his passion and dedication for Kaizen: coaching, teaching, and self-improvement, Jeremy is the perfect fit for Minami's management team. He is excited to be apart of the Aburi Restaurants family and looks forward to the new challenges ahead.
