Maria grew up in Maniago, a small town in the northern region of Friuli, Italy. For four years preceding the opening of Gelatiamo, Maria invested a great deal of time and resources researching the art and chemistry of making gelato. She studied under a world famous gelato master who taught her the fundamental difference between simply making gelato and the more difficult task of creating a recipe for gelato. Since the inception of Gelatiamo, Maria has consistently focused on the art of creating gelato recipes and combining flavors to yield the most balanced gelato and sorbet. She travels to Italy often to surround herself with top gelato masters and pastry chefs to continuously learn more about recipe formulation and the art of gelato production-and passes her knowledge on by teaching gelato classes quarterly in California as well as private consulting across the nation.
