Located in a converted house in the University District, Cedars Restaurant on Brooklyn offers a pleasant, homey atmosphere and well-prepared, authentic Mediterranean and Indian cuisine. Begin with the flavorful mulligatawny soup or a traditional Mediterranean or Caesar salad. Combo plates include falafel, gyro or shish kabob served with hummus and pita bread. Among the myriad meatless dishes are baigan bhartha (eggplant baked with onions, tomatoes and spices) and vegetable kofta (mixed vegetables with fresh cheese balls served in a butter sauce). There's also a long list of tandoori-style entrées such as the Tandoori Surprise (an assortment of chicken, lamb, beef and fish served with onions and lemons) or the Tandoori Seafood (halibut, cod, salmon and prawns). Choose from a long list of traditional Indian breads baked fresh daily to accompany your meal. Desserts include baklava, gulab jamun (fried pastry served in honey and syrup), kheer (traditional Indian rice pudding) or a variety of ice creams. During warmer months, don't miss eating on the popular wooden veranda.

History

Established in 1975.

Cedars first opened as a Mediterranean Deli in 1975 several years later it was infused with indian cuisine and has been serving the Seattle Puget Sound area ever since.
