Specialties

We specialize in unique, handcrafted beer that consistently win awards at The Great American Beer Festival, The World Beer Cup, the North American Beer Awards and many others. The Boundary approach to beer is to render excellent examples of classic styles. In some cases, such as with our IPA, Imperial IPA, and Imperial Oatmeal Stout, we push the envelope and make a very big and flavorful brew. We have ten of our beers on tap with a rotating selection of our seasonals to offer. Our kitchen specializes in upscale pub food and offers entrees such as The Great Northwest Pizza (a basil pesto base topped with smoked salmon, roasted garlic, roma tomatoes, chevre and parmesean) and our signature Yam AleChiladas (sweet potatoes wrapped in corn tortillas, topped with mole poblano sauce, baked with cheddar and jack cheeses and topped with salsa and sour cream). Of course, we've got old favorties like Lamb or Beef Burgers and Grilled New York Steak to please the traditionalists too!

History

Established in 1995.

Boundary Bay Brewery has a pub on premise and wholesale distribution in Washington and Northern Idaho. The 17 barrel brewery is located in a restored historic 1922 warehouse in downtown Bellingham, across from the Saturday Farmers' Market. The building also houses a Taproom and Bistro where customers can enjoy one of nine fine beers, including two or three seasonal brews. Our food is as unique as our award winning beers. We have full service dining where families are welcome and an outdoor beer garden that hosts live music and summertime BBQ's has been added to complement our large outdoor deck.

Manager

Janet has worked in the industry for 35 years and has been Boundary's general manager for the last 10 years.  Janet started working at Boundary Bay as a chef when the brewery first opened and says that the brewery now feels like a second home to her.  She works here side by side with her life partner, her son, and her daughter.  She carries this sense of family into her interactions with the staff as well:  "Everyone feels like a family.  It's important to me to know everyone's name, even when our staff gets into the hundreds.  I like to say hello to everyone in the morning."  Equally important to Janet, is making sure the brewery is a place where people come to celebrate, to relax and to be comfortable.  Lightner believes that her work within the brewery is about building strong ties with the customers and the community at large...making the Bellingham community a stronger one because of it.
