I always wanted to open a traditional Indian restaurant in Dallas, that served authentic south-Indian mess style village food.  My partner and I planned it for years, but the chance to actually do it just arrived a few months ago!When I went to Kumar Mess in Madurai, I really enjoyed the diversified menu items that is nothing like what we get in the US.  There is no generalized "Chicken Curry", "Goat Curry", etc.  That's when I thought, this is exactly what we need in the BigD area.  We were lucky to get the recipes from them, cuz they don't really do franchises.  We then built the menu based on that, and added just a few more items to cater to the non-traditional Indian food lovers as well.  Don't get me wrong, certain americanized Indian food is super tasty as well... but we get that in almost all the Indian restaurants.  I wanted to bring the specialties that will take people back to India!  Especially to south-Indian villages... Hence, Kumar's (a.k.a. Kumar Mess)!
