History

Established in 1938.

Founder Pappy DeWese started the Tip Top Cafe because in 1938 he felt like what American needed was a place where you could get a great home style cooked meal like your grandma used to make. Nearly 80 years and three generations of the DeWese family, the Tip Top Cafe is world famous for its generous portions, signature chicken fried steaks, golden stacked onion rings, and fresh made daily on-premise delicious pies. Patrons can still sit at the vintage counter on a bar stool straight out of the 40s or at a vinyl covered booth to enjoy home-cooked style food. Tip Top Cafe has set the table for mechanics to mayors and become a landmark destination for "foodies" who've seen it on the Food Network, and a landmark for Alamo City locals. Nostalgia never tasted so good.
