History

Established in 1977.

In January 1977, with the encouragement of family and friends, Chris Madrid, a University of Texas marketing major, opened Chris Madrid's Tacos and Burgers, in the historic Beacon Hill neighborhood of San Antonio. Since then the legendary burgers have become a fixture in the San Antonio community, serving customers from all over the city and all over the world. After almost four decades, and several expansions, Chris Madrid's has become one of the most iconic burger joints in Texas. It has received numerous awards and recognitions over the years, and is a favorite spot for everyone from college students to politicians to San Antonio Spurs. Chris passed away in March of 2012, leaving behind not only an historic restaurant, but also many friends throughout San Antonio made over the years. He is deeply missed by those who knew him well, but his legacy of warmth, friendship, and service continues to define this place that bears his name.
