We brew all of our beer in-house using organic ingredients. BSBC Patrons savor a wide array of hand-crafted stouts, lagers and ales from a rotating tap, including the seasonal favorite, King William Ale, a traditional barley wine-styled beer. We also provide a fresh and well-sourced menu for lunch, dinner and our weekend brunch featuring innovative comfort food, favorite pub classics, fresh-baked breads and desserts. We use local farmers to purvey farm-raised beef, chicken, dairy, eggs, grains, fruits and vegetables to create delicious cuisine.

History

Established in 1996.

The Blue Star Brewing Company opened in 1996 and is located at the beginning of the Mission Reach, a major bike-friendly and pedestrian friendly thoroughfare to the city's cultural and historical features that runs along the San Antonio River. The eclectic craft brewery and restaurant is a central watering hole and activity hub for locals and hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The is made with quality ingredients prepared simply. Blue Star Brewing Company's friendly neighborhood atmosphere is rivaled only by the quality food and beer it serves.

Business Owner

Founded by entrepreneur and restaurateur Joey Villarreal and his wife, Magdelena.  Joey majored in biology at the University of Texas San Antonio where he first encountered home brewing.After College, he opened "Joey's" on North St. Mary's in 1988.  It was during a trip to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1992 that the brewpub concept peaked Joey's interest.  He visited the Great Lakes Brewing Company, at the time a 7 -barrel brew house, and was drawn to the operation's "realness" and human ingenuity. He spent the next 4 years developing his own operation, what in 1996 came to fruition as the Blue Star Brewing Company.  The Mission: to serve house-made craft-brewed beer using wholesome ingredients.
