Foodies: Welcome home. As a farm-to-table restaurant in Asheville's Historic Grove Arcade, Modesto provides more than great dining -- we delight and enchant with a complete flavor adventure. While putting passion into every meal, Chef Hector Diaz has created an unforgettable menu using whole foods, rare and sought-after herbs, and innovative recipes. Carefully crafted and consistently delectable, each dish fuses local fare with traditional Latin and European influence. Twirl your fork into a fresh plate of pasta, enjoy a wood-fired pizza, or treat yourself to local Del Monico beef (grilled on an open flame), and homemade risotto. For something a bit more exotic, try our flame-grilled octopus, artichokes and chef's balsamic reductions. No matter what you order, we promise one thing: Deliciousness is always in store.

History

Established in 2006.

Modesto is one of three restaurants owned and managed by Asheville's culinary master, Chef Hector Diaz. Opened in 2006 next door to sister-restaurant "Chorizo", which offers a wide variety of Latin Fare. Both restaurants are located in the historic Grove Arcade in downtown Asheville and are favorites of both locals and tourists alike.

Business Owner

Hector is a native of Cayey, Puerto Rico. When he was 11 years old, he traveled to the U.S. to live with family in New York. From the moment he was able to work he had his feet planted in restaurants. Working his way up from a bus boy in New York city to a chef, he was able to realize his passion, food. Hector worked at many great restaurants in New York and Miami until he landed in Asheville in the late 80s. Here is where Hector felt at home, in the mountains of western North Carolina. It reminded him of where he was raised, his childhood home in the mountains of Puerto Rico. With the generosity of the community, Hector began his odyssey of restaurant ownership. He currently owns three, and today he owns and operates Modesto with his beloved wife, Aimee.
