If you've walked along the sidewalk of 2740 Broadway, there's a chance you know us by the aroma of our artisanal, fresh-baked breads, enticing customers to our front doors. That might be because we prepare everything fresh, daily, right in front of our customers' eyes. At Silver Moon Bakery, we brings together 47 varieties of breads, ceremonial challahs, sophisticated cakes and pastires, and specialty holiday treats for a selection as eye-catching as it is bursting with flavor. Kosher, vegetarian, and rich with nature's best ingredients, our handcrafted creations are prepared mindfully, so every bite is as delicious as the next.

History

Established in 2000.

Silver Moon Bakery was begun by bread baker Judith Norell, a former musician. Its goal was to produce the highest artisanal breads, cakes and pastries possible, in a warm and friendly neighborhood atmosphere. Winner of several awards, it has become a focal point of the area. Passers-by can watch the bread bakers through the window, shaping and baking throughout the day.

Business Owner

Judith Norell switched from being a concertizing baroque musician/conductor, to a bread baker in 1997. Having baked all her life, she decided to make it her new career, and, after studying at the French Culinary Institute, baking at Patisserie Gerard Mulot in Paris, and working at Le Pain Quotidien in SoHo, she opened Silver Moon Bakery in Nov. 2000. Classical music (with some interjections of Louis Armstrong & Ella Fitzgerald), wafts through the tiny space, mingling with the aroma of freshly baked breads & pastries.
