History

Established in 1955.

The history of Nick's starts in 1955, when Big Nick would dock his lobster boat at the current location on Flatbush Avenue and sell his fresh caught lobsters from a shack to those who passed by. About 20 years later, his children decided it would be a good idea to add a full fledged fish market to service the surrounding neighborhoods' growing need for quality seafood, especially around the holidays. Off to the side of the market, a small fryer was added to serve fried sole and shrimp to people who wanted a quick bite on their way home or to eat while waiting for their lobsters to be steamed. Nick's popularity kept growing, and around 1983, that side wall was knocked down to add a full raw bar where customers could pull up and enjoy fresh clams and oysters on the half shell. Fast forward two and a half decades later, and Nick's has grown to a restaurant seating over 300 people, serving new generations of Brooklynites from all around the world!
