However, the crown jewel of our offerings lies in our Red Mesa Sangria Bar, a pioneering venture in the South and beyond. While our classic Red and White Sangrias have garnered acclaim, our array of seasonal and artisanal Sangrias has earned a devoted and enthusiastic following. Chef Chris brings forth recipes inspired by different regions, infused with a local medley of fruits and spices. Our knowledgeable staff stands ready to navigate you through our menu and wine selection. History

Established in 1995.

Red Mesa owners Peter and Shawn Veytia, started out in the restaurant trade with their popular 4th Street seafood restaurant, Seabar, in 1981. In 1995 the Veytias were joined by Executive Chef Chris Fernandez, who grew up in the kitchens of Oaxaca, Mexico where he was exposed to a great variety of regional foods and flavors from around Mexico. Chef Fernandez and the Veytias drew from their shared Latin heritage and Red Mesa was born. The Red Mesa family has since grown to include the Veytia's two sons Dana and Pete. In 2009, the Veytias opened Red Mesa Cantina, (www.redmesacantina.com) in the heart of Downtown Saint Petersburg. The Cantina offers a social dining environment with latin-inspired small plates, indoor and outdoor dining, two full bars as well as a popular Saturday and Sunday brunch service. Cantina's Tequila Bar boasts the one of the largest, if not the largest, selections of Tequilas and Mezcals in the Southern United States.

Business Owner

Peter and Shawn Veytia opened the popular 4th Street seafood restaurant, Seabar, in 1981. Then, inspired by Shawn's Mexican grandmother's extraordinary recipes, they decided to bring the rich heritage of regional Mexican flavors to St Pete. In 1995, Red Mesa Restaurant opened its doors. Chef Chris Fernandez joined them along with the Veytia's two sons, Pete III and Dana. In 2009, the group opened Red Mesa Cantina in the heart of downtown Saint Petersburg, later opening Red Mesa Mercado in the Edge District, and recently, Red Mesa Events and DeSanto Bar, also in downtown St Pete. As locals, the Veytias continue to bring new and novel dining experiences from around the Americas to our wonderful St Pete community.
