Summer means fresh basil is abundant in Santa Cruz and that means homemade pesto is available at Zachary's. We serve it scrambled with eggs and mushrooms. Also available only during the summer months: fresh blueberry pancakes and, if you're lucky enough to come in on the right day, blueberry cream cheese coffee cake.

History

Established in 1985.

Tom and Catherine are a husband and wife team that own Zachary's. They're both UCSC alumni and have lived in Santa Cruz since our college days, over thirty years now. They fell into the restaurant business as a result of working restaurant jobs as they went through school and after graduating. There aren't a lot of other options out there for an English Lit. and a Religious Studies major. Their first venture at our own enterprise was to sublease an existing dinner house restaurant in Capitola (Suzanne's by the Sea) during the morning hours. (1983) That's where they developed our breakfast menu. They ran that for about a year and a half and then opened Zachary's in 1985. They love Santa Cruz and love being such an established part of the Santa Cruz community.
