History

Established in 1934.

In 1934 Victor Bergeron, known as 'The Trader' opened a local watering hole called 'Hinky DInk's' in Oakland, California. After a whirlwind of success and the growing popularity of his rum cocktails and tropical libations- the business was transformed into 'Trader Vic's'. Herb Caen used to lovingly refer to Trader Vic's and claimed "the best restaurant in San Francisco is in Oakland." In the decades since, Trader Vic's has spread world-wide and now has 20+ locations with 3 different brands spanning the globe. From the freshest food ingredients to the highest quality rums and liquors, to the most unique and outrageous décor, Trader Vic's is a tropical oasis amidst a bustling urban setting.

Victor Bergeron entered the restaurant business in1934, borrowing $500 to open a hole-in-the-wall joint at 65th Street and San Pablo in Oakland. After booming success the establishment transformed itself into the Trader Vic's known and loved world-wide for global cuisine and exotic libations. Vic's true claim to fame was in 1944 with his invention of the Mai Tai- now one of the most popular cocktails ever created!
