History

Established in 1907.

As a famed Pasadena landmark for more than 100 years, the Huntington Hotel has provided memories for millions of guests in a tradition of luxury and elegance. The hotel originally opened in 1907 as the Hotel Wentworth, but was forced to close shortly after. Railroad tycoon Henry Huntington purchased the hotel in 1911, renaming it the Huntington Hotel. Prominent architect Myron Hunt redesigned the main building & grounds and it reopened in 1914. Celebrated writers, entertainers, religious & political leaders, royalty and sports personalities joined businessmen in their discovery of the enchanting resort. During World War II the hotel was rented to the Army for $3,000 a month. In 1954 the hotel was sold to the Sheraton Corporation and continued operating until 1985 when it was forced to close due to earthquake structural standards. After a 2 1/2 year major renovation, the hotel reopened in 1991 as a Ritz-Carlton, who managed the property until 2008, when it became The Langham.
