The Kitchen is a Michelin-starred restaurant serving a six-course prix fixe dinner menu based upon the best and freshest ingredients available, most of which are procured locally and regionally. The executive chef and staff present the meal in a lively, theatrical demonstration format. Upon arrival, we welcome our guests to relax, order libations, and snack on hors d’oeuvres. As dinner begins, please feel free to speak with us about our wine cellar, selections of spirits, as well as our vibrant and seasonal handcrafted alcohol-free beverages. Our executive chef and staff are here to answer any of your culinary queries or even give you some well-honed tricks of the trade. As dinner winds down, please enjoy a sumptuous dessert along with a bevy of sweet treats and warm chocolate chip cookies; all followed by hand-curated, artisan cheeses and after-dinner cordials and digestifs.

History

Established in 1991.

The husband-and-wife team of chefs Randall Selland and Nancy Zimmer founded The Kitchen Restaurant with their children Josh Nelson and Tamera Baker in 1991. The family was among the first to emphasize farm-to-fork dining in the Sacramento region. They’ve been building relationships and supporting local farmers, growers, ranchers, and artisan producers since the inception of The Kitchen. The quality, commitment, and passion that the Selland family brings to The Kitchen has resulted in a landmark restaurant that has sold out nightly for over 30 years. The Kitchen has earned every imaginable local and regional award along with an impressive record of national accolades, including a MICHELIN star, the AAA Five Diamond Award, a nod as a semi-finalist for the James Beard Outstanding Restaurant Award, the highest Zagat ratings, and honors from Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast, as well as inclusion in the Yelp Top 100 and the OpenTable Top 100.

Executive Chef and Owner Randall Selland has been an innovator on the Sacramento Dining scene for nearly three decades now.  Along with his family, wife and fellow Chef Nancy Zimmer and their children/business partners Tamera Baker and Josh Nelson, Selland has been fixture at the Farmers Markets, championing locally and sustainably grown products and local producers from the very beginning.  First at The Kitchen, then at Selland's Market Cafe, Ella Dining Room and Bar and OBO' Italian Table & Bar, Randall Selland and family have carved out a unique niche in the Sacramento dining scene that sets the standard for innovation and excellence in the region.
