Our selection and price on sashimi grade fish is our forte. We have a wide variety of fish, including tuna, hamachi, kanpachi, hirame, fresh salmon, smoked salmon, tako, ika, uni, ikura, and tobiko. Our other specialty is marinated black cod and salmon (homemade sake lees marinade). Only Japanese market that cuts sashimi platters per your order - for dinners or parties. The best selection and variety. Everything to make your own sushi at home! Other great stuff: Catering (sushi, bento, hot food, etc.) Take-out food - assorted sushi; chicken karaaage; beef, chicken and salmon teriyaki; large bento box variety.

History

Established in 1980.

In 1974, Shuji Suruki started the first and only door-to-door Japanese grocery store on wheels in the Bay Area, covering areas of San Francisco, Peninsula and as far south as Salinas. His customers were families of Japanese businessmen, Nisei and Sansei (2nd, 3rd generation Japanese) and farmers growing carnations, roses, chrysanthemum and strawberries. In 1980, the Suruki Japanese Foods grocery store opened on Broadway Ave. in Burlingame, CA. The store on wheels continued for another 6 months, during early evening hours, to San Francisco and South San Francisco areas. In 1990, the store moved to its current location as Suruki Supermarket to expand operations. Sadly, in 1998 a fire shut down the business for exactly one year. We are extremely thankful that the fire did not spread and that no one was injured. At this time, we took the opportunity to remodel and add a restaurant on the second level. We are a family-owned business, proudly serving the Bay Area since 1974.
