Authentic Italian Restaurant lead by Chef Ermes Paulin since 1989. Diablo Magazine Best of East for Best Italian Restaurant. Best Pasta of Walnut Creek (Walnut Creek Mag) for our seafood pasta Fettuccine alla Viareggina with large scallops and prawns and fresh pasta. Our Pollo Alla Piccata awarded Best Chicken Piccata 2016 as part of 100 Best Bites in SF Bay Area (Diablo Mag). Wine Spectator Magazine Award of Excellence for having one of the "Most Outstanding Wine List in the World".

History

Established in 1989.

Our Chef Ermes Paulin (voted Best Chef 2018, SF East Bay) opened Montecatini Ristorante on October 17, 1989, several minutes before the 7.1 Loma Prieta Earthquake that ended Game 3 of the Oakland A's vs SF Giants World Series. Ermes remembered there were 26 customers that evening. Chef Ermes is dedicated to his craft unconditionally, whether he is an employee or an owner. He is meticulous in his kitchen operations, never cut corners, maintains high standards and goes the extra mile to please the customers. Chef Ermes and his staff's hardwork has earned Montecatini the 2002, 2007, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021, 2022 Diablo Magazine's Award for Best Italian Restaurant of San Francisco East Bay Area. As of January 2022, Chef Ermes and his wife Teresa Cheung sold the restaurant to longtime employees Terrance and Taylor George! Chef Ermes will stay with Montecatini part-time while the new owners keep the Montecatini legacy going!

Terrance and Taylor are lifetime server/bartenders who met at Montecatini in the summer of 2015. Terrance has been with Montecatini since 2007 and has built up his experience working all over the East Bay Area in the restaurant industry. He enjoys speaking and educating others about his passion of wine and food. The talented Chef Ermes will stay on with Montecatini part-time as Terrance and Taylor begin their new adventure with the restaurant.
