History

Established in 2009.

Mofongos was started by owner and chef Augusto who began originally working out of his kitchen at home. After living in Los Angeles for over 10 years he decided that enough was enough, and that Los Angeles needed to have a place where people could dine and experience the proud Puerto Rican culture. After a few months of working at home the business grew and in November 2009 Mofongos opened its maiden location right in the bustling and trendy Noho Arts District.

Augusto C.

Business Owner

Born in Mayagüez, PR, Augusto was born into a family of artists and musicians. His mother Tessie played and sang with Stevie Wonder and she had her own television show in Puerto Rico in the 60's. His grandfather, also Augusto, was member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra and one of the innovators of Latin-jazz in New York during the 1920's. Augusto moved to Los Angeles in 1999 and graduated from UCLA. After years of trying to find his passion he decided that it was time that Los Angeles got to know about his beloved island. With cuisine being one of the most poignant parts of any culture he established Mofongos Restaurant, so that the people of Los Angeles can once and for all get a taste of "La isla del encanto."
