Mijares was started by our Matriarch, Jesucita Mijares, in 1920. Beginning with a small tortilla factory & eventually moving on to creating the oldest restaurant in Pasadena. We are known for her recipes that we use to this very day. We hand-make her Tamales, Chile Rellenos, Salsas & more daily. Known for our Margaritas & spacious dining areas we also feature a private Banquet Hall, seating up to 100 guests, which now stands in the place of Jesucita's home. We are a Pasadena Landmark & look forward to welcoming our guests to Mijares.

History

Established in 1920.

Over 103 years ago, Jesucita Mijares fled the revolution in Mexico in search of a new life for her family. After settling in Pasadena, she opened a small tortilla factory & established her restaurant, featuring her original recipes. Her Tamales & Salsas are still made with our volcanic stone Molino. Mijares remains Pasadena's oldest & finest Mexican restaurant, serving authentic Mexican cuisine & award winning Margaritas. Our restaurant features festive indoor & patio dining with a historic banquet facility where Jesucita lived. Today, Mijares remains under the care of her daughter Alice & three generations of family. We celebrate this legacy as a tribute to Jesucita, who passed away in 1988. We uphold her famous motto: "Mi casa es su casa!" We look forward to welcoming you to Mijares!

Tom is one of the third generations of the Mijares family following his mother, Alice Mijares and his Grandmother, Jesucita Mijares in the Restaurant business. He recommends trying the Tom's Shrimp Appetizer. Named after himself of course.
