Lake Chalet Seafood Bar & Grill is one of Oakland's premier restaurants located on beautiful Lake Merritt and offers indoor and outdoor dining over the water. Lake Chalet is located in a gorgeously renovated 100 year old building and boasts 10,000 square feet of indoor dining and 2,500 square feet of outdoor dining on our dock. We serve a diverse menu of contemporary Californian cuisine with a focus on seafood that's full of new takes on old favorites and a great raw bar. Several dining areas make up our restaurant and offer something for everyone, including private dining and event space for weddings and large meetings. Our 80 foot long bar overlooks the lake and provides a great place to meet friends, enjoy great people-watching and drinks from our full bar featuring Beach Chalet Ales and handcrafted cocktails. The Dock has weekly specials (Taco Tuesday & Happy Hour) and serves afternoon drinks daily.

History

Established in 2009.

Lake Chalet Seafood Bar & Grill opened in August of 2009 and was created by veteran restaurateurs Gar and Lara Truppelli (Beach Chalet Brewery & Restaurant, Honor Kitchen & Cocktails and Park Chalet Garden Restaurant in San Francisco) working with Executive Chef Jarad Gallagher. Lake Chalet Seafood Bar & Grill is proud to be part of a rich Oakland history and will continue to be the city's destination for good times and even better food. The Lake Chalet building began life in 1909 as a high-pressure salt water pumping plant for the Oakland Fire Department. John Galen Howard designed the original concrete building. In 1913, Walter D. Reed designed the two building wings to serve as a municipal boathouse. The building hosted excursions, regattas, locker rooms, a tea room and several restaurants. The original pump station remained in operation until 1955 when the building was converted to offices by Superintendent of Parks, William Penn Mott Jr. to move staff there from downtown.
