History

Established in 1978.

Sam and Yoko K. Eryu (came from Japan) started a small Japanese restaurant with sushi bar in Garden Grove in 1978, when sushi was not as common or popular as it is today, in Orange county. Four years later in 1982 they decided to relocate to the city of Orange where Koisan has stayed for nearly three decades. "Koisan" is the informal name for the youngest, or only daughter of a traditional Japanese restaurant family in Osaka or Kyoto in Japan. We named our restaurant after Yoko who was the "koisan" of traditional Japanese restaurant located in Osaka . Since the day we opened our doors to Orange county we have tried to keep true Japanese authenticity and tradition in our business, which has proven to be quite difficult. We've added a few fusion dishes in order to keep up with the times; However we still keep our Japanese traditions and authenticity which we believe is valued within our loyal customers. Koisan is truly a diamond in the rough.

Koisan Sushi Bar was founded by Sam and Yoko K. Eryu (came from Japan). Koisan started from as a humble Japanese restaurant with sushi bar in Garden Grove in 1978, when sushi was not as common or popular as it is today. Sam and his family carried Koisan's legacy until his passing until the Eryu family decided to delegate Koisan to a skilled chef.Kenn  is a passionate chef that has twenty years of experience and counting. His experience, passion, and know-how has been responsible to continuing Koisan's infamous legacy. Kenn's philosophy towards his work is "to strive for perfection", which can be seen within the quality of the fishes served by him at his sushi bar.
