"Vincent DePhilippis Born in New York NY, raised in Naples Italy returned to New York City at the age of 18. Vincent DePhilippis and Madeleine Manfredi from Nimes France met in New York NY (Mamma and Papa) married in 1925, then settled in Westchester Pennsylvania. Then moved to San Diego in 1947 where they opened an Italian market named Cash & Carry Italian foods on India Street in San Diego. 1950 was the beginning of what has become a very successful line of family restaurants that are today know as Filippi's Pizza Grottos that are owned and operated by original family members of the founders. The DePhilippis family would like to welcome you and your family to visit our restaurants to enjoy our traditional old Italian family recipes."

Established in 1950.

Vincent DePhilippis and Madeleine Stefani came to America in 1922, Vincent from Italy and Madeleine from France. They met in New York and married in 1925 and settled in Philadelphia. In 1950 they moved to San Diego where they opened a deli grocery on India Street, which was called Filippi's Cash and Carry. This was the beginning of what was to become a successful line of family restaurants. Today we have expanded to 14 locations across California, but every location is still locally owned and operated by family members of the original founders. Our family would like to welcome your family to visit our restaurants and enjoy the traditional family recipes that our family has been serving for over 60 years!

Born & raised in San Diego, I started working in the family restaurant at the age of 12 along side my siblings. in 1985, I left to go to Culinary School to get my degree and enjoyed 17 years as an Executive Chef and Director of Food & Beverage in the Hotel industry before returning to my roots to open a much needed family restaurant in Napa, "Filippi's Pizza Grotto" in 2005.We invite residents and visitors to Napa like to stop by today to enjoy an authentic Italian flavor that only Filippi's Pizza Grotto can bring you! In keeping with family tradition, our restaurants serve only the freshest and finest Italian ingredients and offer top quality customer service.  We are proud to have been voted best family restaurant for 7 years in a row in Napa, making us a favorite among locals!
