Established in 2003.

Shimogamo was founded by a Japanese couple, Sanae and Yoshio, with a passion for introducing authentic Japanese cuisine to the community. When they moved to Arizona 30 years ago, they noticed a lack of Japanese food options. They saw an opportunity to share their love of Japanese cuisine and decided to open their own restaurant. They wanted to provide a truly authentic flavors, and carefully created dishes to ensure it. They used traditional cooking techniques to create the flavors they desired. As word spread about the restaurant, it quickly became a popular desitionation for locals and visitors. People appreciated the authenticity and quality of the food, as well as the warm and welcoming atmosphere created by them. Today, our restaurant continues to honor the founder's vision. After 20 years since establishment, now under the new management, Sanae's daughter Mika and her husband Daisuke, Shimogamo remains to be a local favorite for authentic Japanese food and sushi in Chandler.

Business Owner

Daisuke and Mika are a married couple who share a passion for great food and fine beverage. Born and growing up in Japan and professionally trained at Tsuji Culinary Institute in Osaka, Daisuke initially pursued his career as a chef in the fine dining scenes of Tokyo. After assuming several executive positions at the hotels and fine dining restaurants in Tokyo, he moved to the U.S. with his wife, Mika. Mika, on the other hand, is a skilled and certified sommelier who has an expert palate and deep knowledge of sake and wine. She has worked in wineries, bars, and fine dining restaurants in U.S. and Tokyo and curated wine lists for some of the most discerning connoisseurs.Together, Disuke and Mika have combined their talents to retool the restaurant they inherited from Mika's parents to serve real Japanese food. The couple's dedication to quality and hospitality has earned them a local following, and Shimogamo has become a favorite among local and visitors.
