What's at SAM? Well, for starters, there are 2,600 objects in 35 international galleries. Looking for an around-the-world experience? Check out the Australian Aboriginal Gallery - SAM is the only museum in the US to have anything like it. Maybe you'd like to have your breath taken away (who wouldn't?) - the Modern and Contemporary Galleries feature an amazing Korean coat made of 40,000 dog tags. Or maybe your tastes are a little more traditional? The 16th century Italian Room will take you back to the Renaissance. Do the kids need to blow off some steam? Try the Family Room - it's filled with toys and learning activities. Phew! That should keep you busy for an hour or two. Fortunately, SAM is open until 9 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays so you can take it all in.

History

Established in 1933.

For seven decades, the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) has been a leading visual arts institution in the Pacific Northwest. The Seattle Art Museum, is a world-class arts institution with three locations, the Seattle Art Museum, downtown, Seattle Asian Art Museum (SAAM) in Volunteer Park and the Olympic Sculpture Park (OSP) in Belltown. The collection now numbers approximately 24,000 objects.
