In the chilly dawn of January 2012, Mouton's Southern Bistro threw open its doors, beckoning travelers with the familiar aromas from that stretch between Austin and NOLA. Picture this: Texas and Louisiana roadside diners, smoke rising from the grills, spices wafting through the air, and a symphony of Tex-Cajun flavors playing on your palate. It's here where the heart of Cajun & Creole melds seamlessly with the spirit of Texas.

History

Established in 2012.

Mouton's offers the best selections you'll find on that drive between Austin and New Orleans, specializing in the very best dishes from Central Texas and Southern Louisiana back road diners. We use local Texas ingredients in classic Cajun recipes with plenty of French Creole influences. We prepare everything in house with dedication and care, using many family recipes that have been handed down through a culture of family, food, and fellowship. Business Owner

Ben has been in the restaurant and bar business for 30 years.  He  started as a dishwasher in a Mexican food restaurant in Bastrop, TX at the age of 15, then went on to cook and wait tables San Marcos, TX while he attended Texas State as a theatre major.  He then moved to New Orleans where he attended Delgado culinary school, waited tables at Arnaud's and managed the bar at Southern Yacht Club.  He then moved back to Austin where he managed for Earl Campbell's, Austin Java Company, Maudie's Tex Mex, Sherlock's and Baker Street Pub's.  Mouton's Bistro is his first venture into restaurant ownership.
