History

Established in 2017.

After a health issue in college, Nelson Monteith realized the benefits of eating well and having an overall better quality of life. With clean food being a top priority for him, he did not always have time to commit to this kind of diet, while keeping up with a busy lifestyle. Wanting to make a change, Monteith opened Honest Mary's: a convenient place for people to eat healthy, approachable food, made with honest ingredients.

Nelson and his wife Mary (whom the restaurant is named after) decided to open Honest Mary's in north Austin, inspired by a health issue Nelson had in college. It was there that he came to the realization that food is medicine and eating well was vital to life.
