History
Established in 2002.
In 1969, when The Driskill Hotel was threatened with demolition, the Heritage Society of Austin rallied local citizens to save their beloved landmark with a bake sale and selling stocks. Later, the Heritage Society founded the 1886 Lunchroom & Socializing Parlor, successfully operating for 20 years featuring their own family recipes.
In honor of the 1886 Lunchroom, on July 4, 2002, the 1886 Cafe & Bakery opened, bringing back time-honored original recipes while infusing innovative flair from its talented chefs.
