History

Established in 2015.

Death & Taxes takes its name from the history of our beautifully restored early 20th-century building, formerly a funeral home, and later, a bank. The cuisine also draws from dual sources of inspiration: Chef Ashley Christensen's deep respect for the regional traditions and expertise of pitmasters throughout the South, as well as her experiences studying open-fire cooking traditions around the world. Rooted in these smoked and charred flavors, Death & Taxes presents a modern perspective on wood-fire cooking that spans from dry aged cuts of meat and roasted oysters, to handmade pastas topped with smoked sauce and even grilled vegetable vinaigrettes.
