History

Established in 2004.

Corner Kitchen was started in 2004 by Joe Scully and Kevin Westmoreland. We wanted to make the freshest Southern American food with a bit of twist. Our goal was to give locals and visitors to Asheville, and specifically Biltmore Village a chance to experience handcrafted food from local providers, whether at lunch or dinner. We survived two hurricanes and flooding (as did the rest of Historic Biltmore Village) in 2004, and in 2009 the President and First Lady chose us for one of their meals on their vacation to Asheville. Most recently we continue to survive a Pandemic!

Joe is the Chef/Owner of two of Asheville's most distinctive and popular food operations: Corner Kitchen and Chestnut. Corner Kitchen opened its doors in February 2004 and was a hit from day one. Once the citizens of Asheville realized that they could experience top-notch food and service in a casual and unpretentious setting, there was little doubt that Corner Kitchen would become an institution in our little mountain city. In 2014, Joe and Kevin decided to open their second restaurant, Chestnut, in downtown Asheville. Both Corner Kitchen and Chestnut use many local farmers, butchers, and food crafters to keep the food authentic and to continue a tradition on hand-wrought and sensible preparations.
