Raleigh-native and life-long baker, Kim Hammer started bittycakes bakery (bittycakes.com) in 2004. Born from her desire for fresh, seasonal baked goods, without a bunch of phony ingredients and icky chemicals, Kim continues to be committed to supporting as many local growers and producers as possible. The concept for Bittersweet was born from her love of dessert and cocktails together, matching great flavors and sharing fresh produce--strawberry tarts with strawberry-infused vodka, for example. Many ingredients used at Bittersweet come from within a 50-mile radius of downtown Raleigh. This includes milk, cream, eggs and nearly every produce used (berries, sweet potatoes, herbs, etc.). And because nobody wants chemicals in their cupcakes (or pie!)--all berries and most other produce is completely pesticide-free or certified organic.
