Anthony (Totonno) Pero came to America in 1903...began to make pizzas at Lombardi's in Little Italy...which was a grocery store.....and became the first licensed pizzeria In America.....because Totonno was the first person to make pizzas there...so Totonno brought pizza to America! He left Lombardi's to open his own pizzeria in 1924 in Coney Island...and it stills survives...being operated by his family....the grandchildren! Totonno's has been chosen as the No. 1 pizza in America by Food Network.
