History

Established in 1949.

Tropical Acres Restaurant traces its origin to 1949 when Gene Harvey, a successful restaurateur from Yonkers, New York purchased an old frame house on Broward Road in Dania, Florida and converted it into The Original Tropical Acres Steak House. On April 1, 1964 an early morning fire gutted the Original Tropical Acres on Griffin Road. Faced with the prospect of starting from the ground up he was encouraged to rebuild by his second cousin, Sam Studiale, a retired Navy officer. The restaurant was reopened that November under the new management and ownership of Mr. Studiale. Sam Studiale, his wife Ceil, and all of their eight children worked in some capacity at some time. Two of them, Jack and Carolyn, picked up the reins 30 years ago actively managing all operations. On most nights you will see their sons, Joe and Michael, at the door carrying on the family tradition, greeting customers and assisting in operations as fourth generation managers.
