History
Established in 2006.
Known for its bold, flavorful and largely hop-centric beers, Stone Brewing Co. has been brewing in North County San Diego since 1996. Founded by Greg Koch and Steve Wagner, Stone is the 10th largest craft brewer in the United States--a position it achieved without paid advertising, discounting or compromised standards. In addition to brewing, Stone owns two eclectic farm-to-table restaurants--Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens - Escondido and Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens - Liberty Station--The beer company operates Stone Company Store locations that offer merchandise and year-round, specialty, and one-time releases for growler fills and on-site tasting. To round out Stone's impressive footprint, in 1999 they founded Stone Distributing Co. which distributes more than 30 craft beer brands throughout Southern California.

Business owner information
Luke B.
Manager
Founded in 1996, Stone Brewing Co. is the collaboration of beer-lover/brewer Steve Wagner (Stone's President & Brewmaster) and beer geek/business guy Greg Koch (Stone's CEO & FrontMan). Steve and Greg were originally introduced by a mutual friend in Los Angeles in 1989 when they were both working in the music business (Steve's band just so happened to rent a room in Greg's newly-opened rehearsal studios). That encounter was short lived, and they didn't run into each other again until a few years later when beer enthusiasm-driven fate led them both to the same weekend class at UC Davis entitled "A Sensory Evaluation of Beer." That morning in the class, Greg kept glancing over at Steve, thinking, "Where do I know that guy from?" Steve walked over during the break and said, "Aren't you Greg from Downtown Rehearsal?" After the class, and over a beer, of course, Steve and Greg discovered that they shared absurdly good taste in beer, coupled with a fiery obsession with quality and ethics.
