We're a proud family group of Northern California restaurants famous for our grand breakfasts, fresh giant hamburgers and homemade pies for nearly 70 years.Family-owned and -operated since 1952, the regional restaurant group, Nation's Giant Hamburgers, is well-loved for its quality food and generous portions. We're open for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday, 365 days a year.

History

Established in 1952.

"A Man, A Buick, And a Hot Dog Stand" Surprisingly, hot dogs is actually how Nation's Giant Hamburgers started in 1952. In San Pablo, CA, Russ Harvey decided to trade in his 1948 Buick to make hot dogs at a 10-foot-wide counter with six stools.From the moment Russ added extra-large, tasty hamburgers to the grill, word of mouth spread, & Harvey's Original Giant Hamburger was born.In 1961, a local teenager, Dale Power asked Russ for a job. He started with maintenance & janitorial duties, & continued working at Harvey's right through his graduate studies. In 1970, Dale bought his first restaurant in Oakland's Jack London Square where the menu featured the Original Giant Hamburger. "Nation's" was the name, because he & Russ believed this hamburger was the best anywhere in the nation. Subsequently, "Harvey's" became "Nation's" and Dale & Russ became partners. Today, Russ enjoys retirement & Dale continues as Nation's chairman. Dale's son, Grant, who joined in 2007, is now president & CEO.
