History

Established in 1995.

Montrio is the third restaurant in the Rio Grill and Tarpy's group. Montrio was first opened in 1995 with high acclaim, earning "Best Restaurant in the USA" by Esquire magazine. Since then Montrio has continued to raise the bar with everything it does. Montrio is known locally as one of the most sustainable restaurants on the Peninsula with significant focus on where it's culinary ingredients come from, recycling, compost-able togo containers etc... Montrio continues to earn top accolades as "Best Restaurant in Monterey (13 times) and "Best Bartender" (Anthony Vitacca, 4 times) in the Monterey County Weekly's Readers Poll

Rory is a longtime, dedicated employee of the Coastal Roots Hospitality restaurant family; he has seven years of tenure with Tarpy's and 10 years with Rio Grill. Rory's ongoing commitment and passion for the restaurants and wine programs have earned him this exciting position.
