About the Business

Specialties

Starting at 3;30am Mama's begins the process leading up to our 8am opening. Mama's owner bakes the breads, makes fresh jam, and morning sweets like yummy crumb cakes and a to die for carrot cake. While we serve a traditional breakfast, most of our customers come for the unique items, such as, egg dishes stuffed with seafood e.g. Dungeness Crab or Bay Shrimp. We use Italian meats like Prosciutto or Pancetta in Omelettes or Benedicts. Cheeses include a range from Sonoma Goat to Danish Gouda. Many customers rave about our griddle specialties French Toast such as Cranberry-Orange with Roasted Walnuts, or a special LemonBerry (fresh blueberry and raspberry in the dough with lemon zest). Fluffy Pancakes are best done in small batches and Mama's makes it's batter about every 30 minutes. The Monte Cristo, with Mama's homemade jam is second to none...Mama's most popular dish. We open the day with a smile and give happily to our 275 customers. AT 3pm we close but always allow all in line to come through our doors...always ending with a smile.

Business owner information

Vince S.

Manager

Greetings,My name is Vince Sanchez. I am a 2nd generation member of Mama's Family. In 1951 Frances "Mama" Sanchez and Michael Sanchez Sr. opened for business in North Beach. Our parents started Mamas on Washington Square out of mom's love of cooking, though dad would say, it was to feed their family of 8 children.Today Mamas is owned by my eldest brother Mike, wife Debbie who operate it with their children and 3rd generation members, Mikey and Felicia. Along with other family members; we represent over 125 years of restaurant experience. Mama Sanchez was women who found it easy to give of herself. She expressed this by way of a genuine passion for food and love of all; our mom was a Mama to many in the City. Today, motivated by tradition, we continue with many members of the 2nd and 3rd generation of Family,  giving the warm greeting and great food as taught by our Mom, Frances "Mama" Sanchez.
