History

Established in 1955.

La Bella Pizza opened October 19th, 1955 by an Italian couple from New York, Tony and Kitty Raso. The name "La Bella" means "the beautiful" and when a patio garden was added, our name was complete. In the beginning, Kitty would serve while Tony prepared the meals with their son little Joey running around with a broom. As business grew they hired a dishwasher, and to keep him busy, they introduced delivering pizzas to Chula Vista in 1957. In 1959, a second son, Tony Jr., was born, also a dining room and banquet room was added. Our history is filled with stories of couples holding their wedding reception at La Bella only to have the children grow and have their own reception here. The Cornerstone of our success has been providing a hearty Italian meal in a family atmosphere at down-to-earth prices. Through their sons, Joseph & Tony Raso, our 90 staff members we hope to continue to be proud part of your community for years to come !

Understanding the proud heritage of La Bella Pizza starts with Papa Tony earned his 2nd purple heart, when he returned to the U.S.he worked on a  Dairy farm in New York, until one fine weekend, 4th of July weekend, Tony met the love of his life Catalda Messina, they called her "Kitty" she was working as a waitress in Manhattan they decided to move to Chula Vista Ca. In 1954, Kitty got a job working at Nicolosi's pizza and Tony went back to milking cows, in 1955, his boss them the money to open their own Italian Restaurant in Chula Vista and they named it La Bella Pizza Garden, it was a place where families would meet and teenagers would come in play the jute box after school, in 1957 they started delivering pizzas. La Bella's is s known as,"Where People Meet to Eat!" We look forward to serving you!
