We make the very best malts, milkshakes and floats in the world! Our premium ice creams are made exclusively for us to our recipe and specification by a local dairy and are the base of our ice cream shakes and malts. In addition to our premium ice cream, we offer a premium no-sugar added ice cream and a premium dairy free mix that you can choose for any of our shakes or malts. We use our customized machine to bring our ice cream to the perfect temperature and consistency for an amazingly, rich and melty taste, perfect mouth feel and texture. Next, we add only the finest premium ingredients like Ghirardelli ground chocolates, fresh fruits and home made sauces. That's right, we even make our own salted caramel, fudge and butterscotch sauces! But we don't stop there, we make many other ingredients in-house as well such as whipped cream, marshmallows, pie crust and even the baked mini-donut that we use to adorn each straw. We are proud not only of the amazing taste of our products, but we also treat every shake as a work of art and strive for the perfect presentation with each. Couple all this with amazing service and a fun, welcoming environment and you have a truly Great Shake!

History

Established in 2013.

Great Shakes is locally owned and operated by the Nelson family. Our shop is located on Palm Canyon Drive on the Palm Springs "strip". We opened our doors April 24, 2013 staffed with only family members. We make gourmet shakes, malts and floats using only premium ice cream and the finest fresh ingredients including house-made salted caramel, fudge, butterscotch, whipped cream and marshmallows! We even bake the mini-donuts that we use to adorn each straw. We are and will always be uncompromising in the quality of our products and service. We brought on our first associate in April of 2014 and have since added several more. Each of our associates is selected for the friendly attitude and customer-orientation we demand. Our employees are empowered to make your experience at Great Shakes the best possible and there is always a family member at the shop. Our shop is welcoming and fun. Business Owner

Douglas is a lawyer who practiced "computer law" in Silicon Valley for 30 years before giving in to his true desire to own and operate his own business.  A self-proclaimed dessert foodie and lifelong lover of malts and milkshakes, he purchased a commercial ice cream machine for his house so that he could begin experimenting with new and unique flavor combinations.  Over the course of nearly a year, he developed dozens of recipes for the best malts and shakes imaginable.   Keeping in mind that any ice cream is best once it has had a chance to "breathe" and soften a bit outside the freezer, he developed the perfect consistency of ice cream for his shakes and malts.  He was so insistent on the exact consistency that it was necessary for the Taylor Company to work with him to create a customized ice cream machine!  His high standards apply to each and every ingredient used.  He uses only real premium ice cream and all natural, fresh and whole ingredients many of which are home made.
