About the Business
Specialties
At Castello di Amorosa we produce wines representative of the world's great wines, while specifically reflecting California's unique climate and growing conditions. These wines are classically structured, delicious and showcase the unique characteristics of their individual "Terroir", or vineyard site. In this way one can experience the flavor and aromas of the vineyard itself. We are committed to using traditional approaches to the craft of wine growing and wine making, but also incorporate modern techniques and equipment when it improves quality. Our Italian inspired wines include: Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Rosato di Sangiovese, Gewurztraminer and "Dolcino" Gewurztraminer, Sangiovese, Merlot, Cab/Merlot Blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, La Castellana Reserve Super Tuscan Blend, Il Barone Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Moscato Canelli, La Fantasia Red Wine, Il Passito Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon and Late Harvest Reserve Gewurztraminer.
History
Established in 2007.
Rising above the hills in the Napa Valley is Castello di Amorosa, which translates to the "castle of love" in Italian. Castello di Amorosa, an authentic-styled, 14th century Tuscan castle-winery complete with high walls and five defensive towers and over 30 acres of estate vineyards. It was built over a 14-year period by Dario Sattui, a fourth generation winemaker and owner of V. Sattui Winery in St. Helena, California. Castello di Amorosa is surrounded by 170 acres of forest and hills, with a stream and a lake, one of the first houses built in Napa County and large Victorian home. Sattui purchased the property in 1993, with the intent of building an 8,500 sq. ft. building without cellars. It gradually morphed in 136,000 square feet with 107 rooms- four separate levels underground and four levels above. Sattui, with a lifelong fascination of Italian medieval architecture coupled with a desire to honor his Italian ancestors, opened Castello di Amorosa April 9, 2007.

Business Owner
Dario Sattui, great grandson of San Francisco California pioneer vintner, Vittorio Sattui, was born in San Francisco and raised in San Francisco and Fairfax in Marin County. His great grandfather Vittorio Sattui, an Italian immigrant, founded V. Sattui Winery in 1885 in San Francisco. Dario was fascinated by his stories and photos of the old winery, above which the Vittorio Sattui family continued to live even after Prohibition closed the old V. Sattui Winery. Following graduation from Cal, Sattui traveled around Europe in a VW van. He fell in love with medieval architecture. Living out of his van, Sattui would visit medieval castles, monasteries, and wineries studying their designs, taking photographs and completing detailed sketches and renderings.Armed with many medieval architectural renderings and another passionate dream, Sattui purchased a 171 acre vineyard property in Calistoga in 1993 and began construction of Castello di Amorosa which opened in 2007.
